విశాఖకి భారీ పెట్రో మండలి
2006 నవంబర్ 09 : Petroleum Chemicals and Petro-chemicals Investment Regions (PCPIRs) లో ఒకటి విశాఖపట్నానికి కేటాయిస్తూ కేంద్రం తుది నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నట్లు తెలిసింది. విశాఖపట్నంతో పాటు మంగుళూరు (కర్నాటక)పారాదీప్ (ఒరిస్సా) హల్దియా (పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్) దహేజ్ (గుజరాత్) కుండ్లి పానిపట్ (హర్యానా) ముంబాయి/రత్నగిరి (మహారాష్ట్ర)లకి వీటిని మంజూరు చెయ్యడానికి రంగం సిద్ధమైంది. త్వరలోనే దీనికి సంబంధించిన ఆధికారిక ప్రకటన వెలువడబోతోంది.
ఈ పెట్రో మండళ్ళు ఒక్కొక్కటి 200 లేదా 250 చదరపు కిలోమీటర్ల ప్రాంతంలో నెలకొని ఉంటాయి.మన రాష్ట్రంలో విశాఖపట్నం నుంచి కాకినాడ దాకా ఉన్న ప్రాంతం దీని పరిధిలోకొస్తుంది. ముడి చమురు (crude oil)ని సహజవాయువు (natural gas)ని ముడిసరుకు (raw material) గా ఉపయోగించుకునే రిఫైనరీలు పెట్రో కెమికల్ క్రాకర్ యూనిట్లు మొత్తం 200 దాకా వివిధ దశల్లో ఏర్పాటవుతాయి.షుమారు 60 వేల కోట్ల పెట్టుబడులు వస్తాయని 40 వేల మందికి ఉద్యోగావకాశాలు ఉంటాయని అంచనా.ఇక్కడ ఏర్పాటయ్యే యూనిట్లకి 15 సంవత్సరాల పన్ను విరామం (tax holiday) ప్రకటించవచ్చునని అంతర్గత వర్గాల భోగట్టా.
ఈ ఏడాది జూన్ 20న ప్రధానమంత్రి డాక్టర్ మన్‌మోహన్‌సింగ్ విశాఖపట్నం వచ్చినప్పుడు విశాఖకి బృహత్ పారిశ్రామిక మండలాన్ని (mega industrial zone) మంజూరు చేస్తామని బహిరంగ సభలో హామీ ఇచ్చారు.
